Price adjustments in residential rent (1.52%), gasoline (1.04%) and foods such as papaya (35.45%), tomatoes (13.28%) and onions (16.28%) helped to accelerate retail inflation measured by the General Price Index – Internal Availability (IGP-DI) for April, reported Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
The Consumer Price Index (IPC-DI) went from an increase of 0.10% in March to an increase of 0.42% in April.
Six of the eight expense classes recorded higher rates of change: Education, Reading and Recreation (from -2.22% in March to -1.24% in April), Health and Personal Care (from 0.32% to 0. 87%), Food (from 0.56% to 0.90%), Transport (from 0.21% to 0.52%), Communication (from -0.31% to 0.57%) and Clothing (from -0.03% to 0.02%).
The main contributions to the movement came from airline tickets (from -12.03% to -8.07%), medicines in general (from -0.20% to 3.87%), vegetables (from -0 .54% to 7.44%), gasoline (from 0.35% to 1.04%), mobile phone tariff (from -0.22% to 2.15%) and clothing services (from -1. 58% to -0.80%).
In the opposite direction, the rate was lower in the Housing (from 0.53% to 0.42%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (from 0.42% to 0.13%) groups, impacted by the items residential rent (from 2. 61% to 1.52%) and banking services (from 0.74% to 0.06%).
The IPC-DI core increased by 0.26% in April, after an increase of 0.27% in March. Of the 85 items that make up the IPC, 37 were excluded from the core calculation. The diffusion index, which measures the proportion of items with price increases, went from 56.77% in March to 56.45% in April.
Construction Materials
Rising costs of both construction materials and labor accelerated sector inflation in the April IGP-DI. The National Construction Cost Index (INCC-DI) went from an increase of 0.28% in March to an increase of 0.52% in April.
The index relating to Materials, Equipment and Services went from an increase of 0.18% in March to an increase of 0.31% in April. The cost of Materials and Equipment went from an increase of 0.18% in March to an increase of 0.32% in April, while Services went from an increase of 0.25% to an increase of 0.30%.
The index that represents the cost of Labor went from an increase of 0.42% in March to an increase of 0.81% in April.
