With an atmospheric V12 of course! The Renntech SS76R is thicker than thick.
The best car in the world, that had to be the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The development budget was astronomical. The intended objectives were all bizarrely unrealistic. In the end, the car was 80 to 90 percent of what it should be.
Of course, Mercedes-Benz also had to earn money by building and selling cars. A financial crisis in the early 1990s meant that Mercedes would leave the W140 as it was. In fact, some gimmicks, such as the electrically operated interior mirror, were dropped in later years.
Renntech R76R
Anyway, Renntech has taken care of the W140 and gave the car just a little extra performance. Mercedes itself has not had any official AMG models in the price lists.
AMG has built a few (such as the hyper-rare S70 AMG) and of course you could also knock on Brabus. A big difference is that Renntech de S76R just revealed. Retro tuning! Basically nothing different than what Ruf does nowadays.
Premium tuning
But what they have done with the Renntech S76R is just pure premium tuning. Let’s start with the engine. That is the M120 V12, but equipped with AMG camshafts, new injectors, valve springs and titanium connecting rods. In addition, the ventilation has improved.
The intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, airbox, downpipe, sports cats and sports exhaust should provide a much better flow, a spectacular sound and more power.
Atmospheric 7.6 liter V12
The highlight is increasing the cylinder capacity. This increases from 6.0 to 7.6 liters! The result of all these modifications is a maximum power of 615 hp at 5,500 rpm. maximum torque is 953 Nm and is available between 4,250 and 4,500 rpm. Yes, 953 Nm without turbo.
Instead of a four-speed automatic (this is a 1992 example), Renntech has placed the five-speed automatic from a 1996 copy. To make sure you don’t constantly drive around with a spinning inner rear wheel, there is an OS Giken limited slip differential, just like @MartijnGizmo has on his M135i.
Performance Renntech S76R
In terms of performance, they are very modest about the S76R at Renntech. From 0-96 km/h must be completed in 5 seconds, the top speed is still limited to 250 km/h. Those seem very modest figures to us, because a standard 600 SEL almost does.
Lowering springs and specific adaptive Renntech dampers have been chosen for better road holding. To bring things to a halt there are large (402mm) discs at the front with 6-piston calipers and 360mm rear discs with 4-piston calipers. The rims are forged and measure 19×9 at the front and 10.5×19 at the rear. Surrounded by Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
Interior Renntech S76R
Finally, there is the interior, which is of course no longer standard. A sleek, slightly frivolous and sporty atmosphere has been chosen on board. Remember, it was strictly business in the 90s. The upholstery should be your taste, that is a bit too aftermarket in our opinion with the red piping and checkered pattern.
The leather upholstery on the center tunnel and dashboard with the red stitching is very nice. The carbon inlay is also not out of place, although wood actually belongs in a bad German.
The rear seat has been replaced by two seats. You can also connect your smartphone to the radio. Yes, radio, there is no infotainment system. It is a 1992 model, navigation was optional only in 1995.
Then finally production and price. In principle, this is a one-off on behalf of a customer. It is a statement that Renntech is extremely suitable for this type of project. Basically it stays with this copy. The American Mercedes tuner indicates, however, that if you have an old Benz, you can always knock on the door. Anyone have a nice SL500 (R129) or E320 T-Modell (W124) in the garage?
