“I think my boyfriend is hitting me.” It is the first phrase heard in 'Pipas', the short film by the Cieza film director and screenwriter Manuela Burló Moreno, nominated for the Goya Award for Best Fiction Short 2014 and which led, years later, to the series 'Por H or by B', from HBO Spain. Two girls move to the Madrid neighborhood of Malasaña and experience the cultural clash between the coolest life in the neighborhood and the more traditional experiences in their native Parla. Before that, the director took, in 2014, the jury award for Best Short Film in Rendibuthe LA VERDAD arts and young creation contest, aimed at emerging creators, from Murcia or residing in the Region of Murcia, between 18 and 35 years old inclusive, who have until this Sunday, April 28, to submit their original works in the 2024 call.
The short film is one of the categories proposed in the new edition of Rendibú, which also rewards the disciplines of: Short Story + Podcast (recording of the text to listen to on the web), Photography, Design and Music (best song).
A contest that started in 2006 and that has recognized, in its different editions, magnificent creators from different fields. An example of this is the writer Diego Sánchez Aguilar, winner of the Rendibú in the Short Story category in 2016. The man from Cartagena, who recently published 'The knot', a collection of poems with which he won the 49th Antonio González de Lama National Poetry Prize from the León City Council, participated with 'The order of the logopods'.
Roque Baños won the award in 2020 for 'Awesome!', the first short film directed by the Jumillano composer
Also in the short film category, composer Roque Baños won the Rendibú award in 2020 for 'Awesome!', the first short film directed by the Jumillano composer, winner of three Goya awards in 2003, 2008 and 2009 for his musical compositions. The 13-minute story, filmed in Los Angeles, tells the story of a composer trying to make his way in the industry in Hollywood.
Three examples of artists who, like many others – among them the band Cartagenera Arde Bogotá and Rey Lobo, the project of Víctor Hernández, who together with his brother Álex Juárez forms the duo Maestro Espada – wanted to make their talent known through this contest of arts that this year offers the winner of each category a prize of 600 euros (subject to tax withholding). The ruling will be announced at a party with readers to be held on Friday, June 21 at the Párraga Center (Murcia).
The Rendibú contest of LA VERDAD, whose rules can be consulted on the website rendibu.com, is sponsored by Estrella de Levante, Hozono Global, Cajamar Caja Rural and Viñas Familia Gil Family Estates with the collaboration of the Community through the ICA and Párraga.
