The project to divide the internal combustion engine business from that of electric cars at home takes shape Renault. After the rumors leaked in recent months and the hypotheses put forward by the Losanga managers, it was Luca de Meo who definitively confirmed that the French car manufacturer is willing to carry out this type of operation. The number one of Boulogne Billancourt detailed the next steps that they will lead to define the reorganization of the companyalso explaining what the timing will be to have a more complete picture and above all for the completion of the ICE and EV division process.
“For the autumn we think we will be able to define the contours of this project a little better and be able to present it publicly. Then, for the realization, 18-24 months will have to pass “ – explained de Meo on the sidelines of a meeting with the Italian press. Two years, therefore, to carry out the division between thermal and electric, with the aim of hunting for partners who can support all activities relating to the evolution and development of traditional engines. On the other hand, a new entity will be born that will deal exclusively with platforms, software and powertrains for electric mobility. A process of division that could materialize between 2024 and 2025, when there will be exactly 10 years left for the call for heat engines wanted by the European Commission as part of the Fit for 55 package and voted on last June 8 at the European Parliament.
Also on this issue the CEO of the Renault Group wanted to point out the position of the lozenge: “The problem lies in the reference to ‘tank to wheel’ in determining the ‘zero emissions’, and this today cuts out any other technology, if not electric and hydrogen. The latter, however, is expensive and requires an infrastructure that is not easy to implement. I believe that the heat engine is not dead, that synthetic fuels can play a role in reducing the CO2 emitted by the fleet. “
