Renault has reached an agreement in principle with the unions UGT, CSI-F and Union of Cadres (SCP), which make up a majority of the workers’ representation, for the extension of the collective agreement in 2025, with an update of the salary tables next year based on the January CPI data plus one percentage point.
On the contrary, as the spokesperson for the Workers’ Commissions in the Intercenter Committee, Sergio García, has told Europa Press, both this union and the CGT and United Workers have not adhered to the company’s proposal for the Renault Spain factories.
After the constitution of the negotiating table for the collective agreement on October 22, a calendar of meetings was set with appointments on November 6 and 19 and in the first of them an agreement in principle has already been reached with the representatives of UGT , SCP and CSI-F, which, as union sources have pointed out, make up the majority of the workers’ representation, with seven of the thirteen members of the negotiating table.
As stated by UGT in a statement, after analyzing the context and the current situation, UGT has signed the principle of agreement for the extension of the Collective Agreement during 2025. In it, in salary matters, the increase in the 2025 salary tables is contemplated with increase in the CPI for the month of January 2025 plus one percentage point, “with the same mechanics and upward salary review clause included in the 2021/24 collective agreement.” As the same sources point out, in accordance with the forecast made by the Bank of Spain in the month of September (2.1 percent) a salary increase of 3.1 percent would be achieved in January.
Besides, a concept of “flexible remuneration” is incorporated which will be launched by Renault in the first quarter of 2025 so that all workers who want to can take out health insurance, dining checks for those who have a split day, and training linked to the job.
In terms of employment, Renault is committed to convert 100 contracts into indefinite contracts which will be carried out during the year 2025 while relief contracts will be formalized for those workers who meet the legally established requirements. The Disability Plan remains under the same terms and conditions of the 2021-2024 agreement.
Furthermore, UGT indicates that they add improvements in social aspects such as renting “under more advantageous conditions for employees belonging to the Renault Group”, with products that will be detailed before the end of the year.
This Principle of Agreement must be ratified by our UGT Affiliate Assemblies in Renault Spain, convened in the coming days.
The representative of UGT in the Business Committee Adolfo Arnáez has indicated that it has been a “hard, intense and complicated” negotiation due to the “moment in which the automobile sector is” since it has been negotiated with a “new management” of the company. For this reason, he highlighted that “given the state of the sector and the fact that the company is not in a position to guarantee an industrial plan” it has been a good agreement for the transition year that they consider to be 2025.
CCOO: missed opportunity
For his part, the CCOO representative has considered it “unheard of” that an agreement in principle has been signed after a negotiation of “six hours with four hours of recess”, and regrets that “with a very good current situation of the factories” has “lost a historic opportunity” to really improve the conditions of the thousands of Renault Spain workers.
In his opinion, this agreement “will condition one year of the agreement” when he considers that “it was time to negotiate because the workers of Renault Spain cannot have to go through difficulties to make ends meet.” He also points out that “they should to see how your annual workday improves and add improvements to flexibility measures, such as the pool of hours or the limits and deadlines for calls”.
Likewise, he highlighted that in other agreement negotiations “up to 18 or 20 meetings” have been held and now The agreement has been reached “in six hours with a four-and-a-half hour break.” He has also regretted the “turn” that the CSI-F union has taken during the negotiation session, which had initially joined the negotiation platform proposed by CCOO but has ended up decanting the principle of agreement together with UGT and SCP.
CCOO has expressed its disagreement with the way in which representation has been distributed at the negotiating table and has announced to the company and other organizations that it will initiate a collective conflict through its legal services to defend the rights of all workers. .
Sergio García has understood this agreement as the breakdown of “social peace” at Renault and has warned that they will expose what happened “on the ships” and They will wait to see “how people react”since it points out that the workers had “hopes of getting a better agreement.” Of course, he has clarified that the principle of agreement must be ratified by the UGT bases “to see if it is worth it or not.” In any case, he has opted that CCOO will work and fight for the interests of the workers.
