This drop in public income occurs at the same time that registrations of passenger cars and SUVs in Spain fell by 4.71% year-on-year in March, reaching 94,840 units, the first drop since December 2022, due to the effect of Holy Week, while which in the first quarter of the year increased by 3.1%, to 244,879 units, according to Anfac data.
The average price (including tax) that Spanish consumers paid to buy their car in March was 23,741 euros, which represents a growth of 0.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Car prices continue to rise
In the first three months of the year the average price rose 1.7%, to 23,831 euros, a difference of 398 euros compared to the accumulated price of the same months of the previous year.
The total value of the vehicles acquired reached 1,918 million euros in March, 8.5% less, and 5,584 million in the accumulated value of the quarter, 2.5% more.
Vehicle emissions were 116 grams of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometer at the end of last month, two grams less than in 2023, while in the accumulated period the difference was also two grams, with 117 grams of CO2 per kilometer. kilometer.
Second-hand market grows
Sales of used passenger cars and SUVs rose 2.7% in the first quarter, registering a total of 482,802 units, according to data from MSI for the sector employers Ganvam (official and independent distributors) and Faconauto (dealers). In this way, until March for every new vehicle, two used ones were sold.
Regarding energy sources, operations with used diesel vehicles – which represented 53.8% of operations until March – maintain the downward trend of previous months and contracted 1.3% in the first quarter. Gasoline ones, in contrast, increased 2.5% so far this year, with a total of 179,098 units sold.
For their part, operations with second-hand pure electric passenger cars continued to rise, with an increase of 51.4% compared to the first quarter of last year, reaching 3,967 units sold, which represents 0.8%. of the total market. In their case, sales of used plug-in hybrids increased by 54.5%, reaching a total of 5,915 units so far this year.
