The investments of D’Or Network in sustainability resulted in global recognition for good environmental and social practices. In 2024, the company was one of 5 Brazilian companies in the ranking of the magazine’s 500 most sustainable companies in the world Teamin addition to being one of the 11 healthcare corporations that appear on the list.
The selection considers, among other factors, corporations that have signed a commitment to important climate programs and comply with strict emission control standards. The survey was carried out by Statistaglobal data platform.
The result reflects work towards sustainability that has been built for years, with increasing transparency. Since 2022, Rede D’Or has released its annual sustainability report, which is audited by an independent external body and highlights the ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices adopted and the commitments and goals assumed. The publication is also accredited by CVM (Securities Commission).
In 2023, according to the annual report, Rede D’Or recorded a 17.1% reduction in water consumption and almost 13% in waste production. Furthermore, 133 of the company’s units are already inventoried in the Brazilian Program GHG Protocolwhich monitors and establishes metrics for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are strongly engaged in the climate change agenda, contributing to a low-carbon economy. Among our strategic initiatives, we highlight the migration of 74 units to the use of energy from renewable sources by the end of 2025”said Paulo Junqueira Moll, CEO of Rede D’Or.
Within the GHG Protocol, Rede D’Or was recognized with the Gold Sealthe highest level of qualification, in 2023. The seal highlights the commitment to establishing emission reduction metrics, as established by the Protocol of Kyoto. The company also received a B grade – one of the highest grades – for the 2nd consecutive year by CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), international environmental impact disclosure system.
“Over the past year, we have carried out a comprehensive assessment of risks and opportunities based on physical and transition climate scenarios. This assessment is essential to identify the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions and define climate strategies aligned with the company’s business model”said Ingrid Cicca, Sustainability and Environment Manager at Rede D’Or.
Environmental goals
Rede D’Or highlights that it is already committed to goals for the coming decades. As a signatory to the Covenant Global UN (United Nations), joined the Agenda 2030 of Sustainable Development Goals.
To continue on the path to sustainability, priority commitments include a 36% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, in alignment with the global commitment Race to Zeroand the neutralization of net emissions by 2050.
The company also maintains other important environmental goals, including a 10% reduction in electricity consumption in chilled water plants, which help the refrigeration system in the units and the cooling of equipment, by the end of 2024. It is also a 10% reduction in water use is expected in units that adopt the internal water efficiency project by the end of this year.
Furthermore, the company plans to achieve a 30% waste recycling rate by 2030. To this end, it is investing in the energy efficiency of hospitals and clinics and in improving the waste management program.

Certification and sustainability index on exchanges
In 2023, Rede D’Or also received a new certificate FTSE4Good Index Seriesan important indicator of international sustainability, measured by FTSE (Financial Times Stock Exchange) Russell, division of London Stock ExchangeLondon stock exchange, England. The company obtained score 3.9, ranking among the top 6 in the subsector it is part of.
Listed on B3Brazilian stock exchange, the company was selected to integrate the 19th portfolio of the ISE (Business Sustainability Index), which came into force in January 2024. This specific group brings together corporations assessed as highly committed to corporate sustainability.
Social investment
In the social field, Rede D’Or also has a strong presence. With an investment of R$17.5 million in social projects in areas such as culture, sport and health care in 2023, around 1.6 million people were indirectly or directly benefited by the company’s programs. A total of 21,325 jobs were also created by the company last year.
“We emphasize our social commitment to the economic development of the regions in which we operate. In 2023, more than 90% of the materials and services contracted by Rede D’Or were distributed by local suppliers”said executive Paulo Junqueira Moll.
The company also operates in situations that mobilize Brazilian society. In light of the rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul between April and May this year, with around 2 million people affected, the company carried out a series of actions in solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sul.
Hospital materials, medicines and equipment were donated to health agencies, entities and institutions in the region. THE city hall of Canoas, the Hospital Nossa Senhora de Pompeiiin Caxias do Sul, and the PUC-RS (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul), for example, received medical and hospital resources.
Other donations were made to Foundation Getúlio Vargas Hospital, in Sapucaia do Sul, which supplies hospitals San Joséin Taquari, Saint Joseph of Divine Providencein Arroio do Meio, Saint Sebastian Martyrin Venâncio Aires, and Star of Divine Providencein Estrela.
Organizations in Rio Grande do Sul also received 60 computers for the population to access teleconsultations.
Another notable performance by the company was in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic, which began in 2020. Through Idor (Instituto D’Or de Pesquisa e Ensino), the company’s research and development arm, clinical treatment studies were conducted with more than 6,000 volunteers with the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines in Brazil, in addition to research with the immunizers Coronavac/Butantan and Clover .
Committed to science and innovation, Idor’s research, in general, has resulted in around 2,000 publications since 2010, with more than 39,000 citations in scientific journals. Between 2020 and 2023, 160 studies related to Covid-19 alone were published.

In addition to being recognized by Time magazine, Rede D’Or was awarded last year by the international organization Health Care Without Harmrepresented in Brazil by the project Healthy Hospitals.
The company received the award Health Care Climate Challenge as one of the 6 global companies highlighted in the health sector for effective climate actions with collective impact in the region in which they operate, in the Climate Champions category. It also received recognition in the Climate Leadership category. The achievement highlights the commitment to combating climate change.
Last year, the company won the honorable mention in the Economic-Financial Analysis category at the 25th Awards Abrasca (Brazilian Association of Public Companies) for Best Annual Report of a Public Company.
The recognition was due to the 2022 Sustainability Report. The company was included among the finalistswhich shows the transparency and quality of the economic, social, environmental and governance information disclosed.
