A ‘winter’ mod for Red Dead Redemption 2.
In the three years since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, the western title has seen so many amazing mods that have completely changed the look of the game world. The modding community has taken Old West players to places like Red Dead 1’s Mexico, improved its graphics and audio capabilities, and even added zombies.
Now, a recent mod aims to give the game’s vast grasslands and dense forests a decidedly more wintry appeal.
Red Dead Redemption 2 features many locations and regions within the game that already appeal to the snowy and wintry aesthetic. The main story of Red Dead 2 begins on snow-capped Mount Hagen, and players can travel to freezing Lake Isabella and many other frosty areas in the snow-capped Grizzlies West region. With the game’s setting set in a fictionalized version of the southwestern United States, it’s hard to find snowy regions between prairies and forests. However, a mod for the game tries to recreate this wintry environment.
The mod shown by YouTuber Supreme Dear Leader shows a much more snowy version of Red Dead Redemption 2 with snow covering the game’s largest city, Saint-Denis, in white. The effects of the snow can be seen on Arthur’s clothes with the snow attached to his jacket and hat, and even the streets and sidewalks of the city are covered in a layer of snow.
The YouTuber showed several missions in Saint-Denis complete with the snowy environment.
Gamers wishing to recreate winter environments in Red Dead Redemption 2 can find the “Simple Snow” mod on NexusMods.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Stadia.
