When it comes to names, Red Bull takes a simple approach – they started with RB1, then RB2 and so on until 2021. Thanks to the pandemic, the new regulations were postponed and the 2020 cars continued to be developed. The 2021 version was therefore called RB16B. The following year the RB18 arrived. And that's great, because that left the name RB17 for Red Bull's hypercar.
Red Bull's Advanced Technologies department is working on building the car and the design comes from, what else, Adrian Newey. In 2022, Newey and Horner gave a presentation with the first details of the Red Bull RB17. At the time they hoped that they could unveil the car 'within twelve months', but that did not work out. Red Bull recently came up with a new date.
Horner about when the Red Bull RB17 will arrive
In an interview with Sky Sports Horner is asked whether his greatest achievement as a manager is that he managed to keep Newey out of Ferrari's clutches. In his response, the team boss said: 'Adrian, with his wealth of experience, can lead and develop a team, in addition to designing the RB17, our first track sports car to be unveiled in 2024.'
Apparently, Horner talks casually about when the Red Bull RB17 will be presented. Red Bull previously communicated that production of the hypercar for the track will not start until 2025. It is not known whether they will make it, but at least they will not have to comply with difficult things such as emissions, because the car is not allowed on public roads.
What do we already know about Red Bull's hypercar?
Unfortunately, the presentation date is the only thing Horner says about the Red Bull RB17 in the interview. The hypercar will be a counterpart to the Valkyrie AMR Pro, but with a longer wheelbase and larger wheels. Power comes from a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo V8. The total power should be around 1,260 hp.
Red Bull AT hopes to achieve a weight of 900 kilos. This would make it 106 kilos lighter than the AMR Pro, but 48 kilos heavier than Gordan Murray's T.50. The Mercedes-AMG One weighs 1,695 kilos. Red Bull wants to build fifty RB17s according to… FanNation not all have been sold yet. The price should be somewhere around 5 million pounds (approximately 5.8 million euros) without taxes.
