Horner explains Red Bull crisis
From glory to dust in a matter of months. The Red Bullafter a triumphant season in which it heavily updated the record books, was first caught and then overtaken by McLaren, and at least at Monza even Ferrari and Mercedes were one step ahead.
In the immediate post-Italian GP, the Red Bull team principal had described the “illnesses” of the RB20 with words of frustration (“We solve one problem and another appears“), now the British driver went into more detail, admitting that the level of development achieved, especially in some areas, does not allow the car to progress further.
Horner’s words
“We have reached the maximum limit in some areas, sometimes it’s perhaps better to have a slightly lower load but a greater overall balance to have benefits on lap time, degradation and tyre management“, these are Horner’s words to the media. “What we need to do is have a simpler car. If you look at McLaren, it almost looks like an evolution of last year’s car and it’s a much simpler car than ours. Maybe this RB20 is a bit too complex and we need to simplify some things”.
“I think you have to look at all aspects of the car. There is a balance problem that does not allow the drivers to enter the corners well. As soon as you stabilize the rear, you compromise the front, so you end up having understeer, and so you kill the tire.“.
