The “Lange Franz” will no longer be short: the reconstruction of Frankfurt's town hall tower has been approved, and work is scheduled to start this year.

It was about permission for a small building project that was important for the appearance of Frankfurt City Hall: Christoph Mäckler, the chairman of the bridge construction association, received building permission for the reconstruction of the large one from Mayor Mike Josef and head of the planning department Marcus Gwechenberger (both SPD). town hall tower.
The building, known as “Langer Franz” in reference to the mayor Franz Adickes, who was in office at the time of construction at the beginning of the 20th century, will have its original roof and the top floor back. After the Second World War, the tower was only partially rebuilt. Work on restoring the spire is scheduled to begin this year. Since 2016, the bridge building association has collected around 1.5 million euros in donations under the motto “Give Tall Franz his hat back,” thus exceeding its self-imposed goal of one million euros.
