Rebel Moon Part 1 – Daughter of Fire was a success on Netflix in terms of views, but was basically destroyed by worldwide reviews. The sequel and Director's Cut versions – which have an expected release time – may change the opinion of the press, but for the moment the average opinion of specialists is that it is a terrible film. What do you think about the director? Zack Snyder has had his say.
Talking with Empire of the potential Rebel Moon franchise, Snyder was asked about reactions to the film.
“I don't really have a response to the reviews,” Snyder explained. “For any reason, the reaction to my films is very polarized, and always has been. The film doesn't seem to contain anything that would justify such visceral reactions.”
Snyder wants to know what the press will think of the Director's Cut
In the same interview with Empire, Snyder said it will be “interesting to see what will they say [critici] on the Director's Cut. It's a different kettle of fish.”
According to co-writer Kurt Johnstadthere will be many more stories and characters in the Snyder Cut.
“It's definitely there much more history early on in the movie,” Johnstad told THR. “You'll definitely see a lot more of Jimmy and you'll see his arc, and you'll see a lot more of Kora and the Motherworld. You will have a different introduction to Noble. You will also get a different introduction of some minor characters like Aris [Sky Yang], who is the Underworld soldier who defends Sam's character in the barn. You will understand why he is now forced to be a slave soldier of the Underworld and how he got there. So his arc is much more defined. But in broad terms, there's more character and, knowing Zack, there's more action and spectacle and the visual vibrancy that is typical.”
“There is definitely a lot more mythology, and one deeper understanding of the Underworld and his intentions, and what the rebellion is up against. So there wasn't enough time. It would have been a four-hour PG-13 movie.”
