Mexico City.- Rebeca Andrade continues to make her mark at the Olympic Games.
The Brazilian gymnast caught the attention of multi-champion Simone Biles during her team and individual performances in Paris, for her strength in arms and legs, as well as the precision and balance in her jumps and transitions.
To reach the highest level, Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, had to overcome several obstacles, including the poverty in which she lived with her mother Rosa Santos and her 7 siblings.
Rebeca integrated gymnastics into her life since she was 4 years old, when she entered a social program, which she was on the verge of leaving due to lack of financial resources for transportation, but, in order not to give up on her dream, she took 2-hour walks to complete her training.
In a video that went viral on social media, Biles, who leads the U.S. national team, marveled at Andrade’s performance on the uneven bars.
Although it seemed that the 25-year-old athlete would snatch the gold, she had to settle for silver in the individual all-around competition with 57.932 points.
“I never tire of competing against her, because Simone is the best and brings out the best in me. I hope it is reciprocal. I am very happy that she is here. I know what she suffered in Tokyo,” she admitted.
