Real Madrid secured the title of Spanish Football League champion for the thirty-sixth time in its history, with its great victory over its guest Cadiz 3-0, and the loss of its direct pursuer and traditional rival Barcelona to its neighbor and host Girona 2-4.
Real Madrid strengthened its position in the lead with 87 points, 13 points ahead of Girona, which clinched second place, four stages before the end of the season, and included its participation in the Champions League competition for the first time in its history, while Barcelona fell to third place, after its score froze at 72 points.
