Toprak Razgatlıoğlu’s first day on a MotoGP ended with a full of smiles and good humor. The Turkish rider from Yamaha, world champion in WSBK last year, when he managed to break the dominance in Jonathan Rea’s category, was finally able to ‘taste’ one of the M1s racing in the premier class of two wheels. The test, also interesting from a market point of view, given that Razgatlioglu has long been compared to a possible leap into MotoGP, was conducted on the Spanish track of Aragon. Superbike # 1 completed a total of 40 laps at the MotorLand, in a day shortened in the afternoon due to a large shower. Alongside Razgatlıoğlu in the role of tutor was the test rider of the Iwata house, Cal Crutchlow.
“For me this was my first day on the MotoGP Yamaha M1 – said the Turk at the end of the day – and I had completely different sensations compared to my R1. More horsepower, different electronics and a seamless gearbox; for me it was all completely new. I learned more with each lap, as it’s not so easy to adapt to MotoGP from Superbikes. Luckily I had Cal Crutchlow who advised me and who provided me with great help. Excellent sensations with the bike, especially on the straight where it goes really fast and it was interesting to experiment with the carbon brakes ”.
“Today it was really hot – concluded Toprak – so we decided to run five or six laps after the initial stint of 12 laps to get a first feeling with the bike. When I saw the MotoGP bikes on the track here in Aragon, I saw that they jumped a bit and I too had the same sensations today. It wasn’t that bad, you have to keep the throttle open as if you close it then the bike becomes unstable. In general it was a very positive test, even if partially reduced by the rain that fell this afternoon and this did not allow me to do as many laps as I would have liked. I really enjoyed riding a MotoGP so I thank Yamaha for giving me this opportunity ”.
