Kalle Rovanperä increased his lead in the Estonian World Rally Championship. Elfyn Evans’ car had a fatal spin.
Rally leading the World Cup Kalle Rovanperän the top spot in the Estonian World Rally Championship was further secured on the second special stage of the final day.
Teammate of Toyota’s Finnish driver Elfyn Evans spun his car and lost several seconds as he corrected his lane and was able to continue on his way.
Rovanperä and the third Hyundai Ott Tänak drove the bottom time on the 20th special test. The Finn’s lead over Evans is now already 38.8 seconds. Tänak is third, more than a minute behind Rovanperä.
“This was a difficult bit. The previous guys have pulled wide and left grooves. It felt like there was no traction, and I tried to bring the car to the finish line without mistakes,” Rovanperä said for WRC.com.
Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville continues in fourth place, Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta fifth and Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux in the sixth. Fourmaux spun in the same spot as Evans, but in a Toyota Esapekka Lappi no threat to the French.
Lapland’s race was ruined yesterday due to a flat tire, so he is now trying to secure the small points and bring the car to the finish line.
“Really nice. The conditions are beautiful and the road surface is flat. I enjoyed this,” said Lappi, who drove at the beginning and avoided the worst ruts.
Four more special tests will be run today. The competition ends with the powerstage special test starting at 2:18 p.m.
