Demonstrations against compulsory vaccination and sanitary passes were held in the cities of France. This became known on Saturday, October 23rd.
All over the country, a total of the authorities recorded 171 protests, in which about 40 thousand people took part. So, in Paris alone, four marches with a total number of 5 thousand Parisians were held, the agency reports. France Presse with reference to the country’s Interior Ministry.
In general, the demonstrations took place calmly, only in some cities the intervention of law enforcement officers was required, but no one was hurt. Only in the city of Lille one person was detained.
Similar manifestations were also reported on October 3 – in Paris and a number of other cities in France, opponents of COVID passes held regular demonstrations against tightening government measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The main demand of the protesters to the authorities was the abolition of sanitary passes, which from September 30 apply to adolescents 12-17 years old when visiting cinemas and swimming pools.
According to the French government, the deputies intend to consider in October a bill on the compulsory use of passes at least until the summer of 2022.
On August 5, the French Constitutional Council expanded the scope of the sanitary pass to catering establishments and shopping centers. A pass indicates vaccination or a negative test result for COVID-19.
According to French law, people who enter a bar or restaurant without a certificate can get six months in prison. Business owners for violation of the obligation face one year in prison and a fine of € 45,000.
Due to the tightening of measures to spread the coronavirus by the French authorities, protests are taking place in a number of cities. Sometimes security forces use special equipment, water cannons and tear gas in response to attacks.
