Track gave way near interchange in Vale do Itajaí; a couple fell into the hole, but were rescued
A section of BR-470 in Santa Catarina was closed after the opening of a crater this Wednesday morning (14.Feb.2024). According to local authorities, the track gave way at km 143, close to the access junction to Bairro Canoas, in Rio do Sul, in Vale do Itajaí. A car with a couple fell into the crater, but both were treated “No injuries and stable vital signs” by rescuers.
The driver did not notice the warning signs made by people on the road, and the car ended up falling into the hole opened during the heavy rains that have hit the region. An ambulance was called, but the couple managed to leave the vehicle and ended up being attended to by firefighters who were already at the scene.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
Given the lane closure, the State Secretariat for Infrastructure indicated some alternative routes to the BR-470, in the section where the asphalt collapsed. Going West to East, the entrance must be through the Laurentino junction, towards the Barra do Trombudo neighborhood, in Rio do Sul.
“It also passes through the Budag and Canoas neighborhoods, arriving at the junction for access to BR 470”, adds the secretariat when informing that the movement of heavy vehicles in the area is not recommended. For larger vehicles, such as trucks, the best option is to use BR-282.
Another recommended section covers the entrance to the Laurentino interchange, towards Laurentino, passing through Serra Tomio towards Rio do Sul, “leaving close to the Fundo Canoas/Progresso interchange”.
“Rio do Sul city hall issued a decree prohibiting the traffic of vehicles weighing more than 40 tons in the Centro, Budag, Barragem and Barra do Trombudo neighborhoods. The Municipal Guard will inspect the locations.”informed the government of Santa Catarina.
