Intense weekend in the NBA: up to $160,000 (more than 150,000 euros) has been pocketed by the American professional basketball league in financial fines to Anthony Edwards, Doc Rivers and LaMelo Ball on this day.
The rain of sanctions started with the Minnesota Timberwolves star this Sunday: the American shooting guard received a penalty of $35,000 for making “an obscene gesture” on the court during the game against the Sacramento Kings last Friday.
“The incident occurred at 3:15 in the first quarter of the Timberwolves’ 126-130 victory over the Sacramento Kings on November 15 at the Golden 1 Center,” the NBA detailed in a statement. In an image that can be found on social networks Edwards can be seen doing a comb during that meeting.
On the same day, the league imposed another fine on the Milwaukee Bucks coach: $25,000 for charging against referees of the game against the Hornets. And this despite the fact that the referees later recognized that they made a mistake in the crucial play that the coach criticized.
“There are two games in a row in which, in the final play, there is a wrong decision. LaMelo fell, he just fell. Nobody was close, he slipped on his own,” said Doc Rivers, regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s foul on LaMelo Ball that the referees pointed out. “During the post-game review, when we reviewed this play, there was no illegal contact in the play,” the referees noted, according to the NBA pool.
The last to be sanctioned was LaMelo Ball himself, who received a fine of $25,000 for “making an offensive and derogatory comment” after the game against the Bucks. “We’re charging,” the point guard assured the media, quietly adding “not homosexuals”according to Fox News. “As an organization, it’s obviously not something we approve of,” Hornets coach Charles Lee said, while revealing that “I spoke with Melo and he is obviously very sorry”.
