Nadal is experiencing the best start to the season in his impressive career. The 21-time grand slam champion recorded his twelfth consecutive victory since the start of the tennis year at the tournament in the Mexican city of Acapulco.
Nadal condemns Alexander Zverev . outburst
Rafael Nadal thinks it is right that Alexander Zverev has been disqualified from the ATP tournament in Acapulco for misconduct after a match in doubles.
“You can’t behave this way and I believe he is aware of that,” Nadal said. ,,I maintain a good relationship with Alexander, but in the end the punishment is deserved.”
“I understand the frustration and understand that in a moment of anger you can break a racket,” said Nadal. “But I’m not going to criticize him more than say I don’t like it because I wasn’t raised that way.”
35-year-old Nadal never throws his racket himself, after hard lessons from his former coach Toni Nadal. “Unfortunately, the images of Zverev, reinforced by the spread via social media, set a bad example for the millions of children who see it. They base their behavior on us and we have to set the right example and show a degree of respect.”
In 2014, Nadal won his first 11 games of the year. He then lost to Stan Wawrinka in the Australian Open final for the first time that year after winning the Doha tournament.
35-year-old Nadal, the number 5 in the world, won a preparation tournament for the Australian Open this year and then also the grand slam tournament in Melbourne. He may face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals in Acapulco. The Spaniard can then prevent the Russian, whom he defeated in a blistering five-setter in the final of the Australian Open earlier this year, from becoming the new number 1 in the world ranking.
