The scourge of racism and xenophobia was manifested at the Santiago Bernabéu. A sector of the Madrid fans went on a rampage on Saturday with racist insults, especially against Lamine Yamal, but also against Raphinha and Ansu Fati. After months and months with Vinícius raising the flag of the fight against racism in Spanish football, a part of the public that applauds him as one of their references behaved in a regrettable manner. After Madrid and Real Madrid fans have made common cause with the Brazilian, especially after what happened at Mestalla two seasons ago, it was possible to see how the poison of racism also spreads through the Concha Espina venue.
“We request a lip examination to identify the fans.”
“You fucking black man, you fucking Moor, go to the traffic light to sell handkerchiefs, you fucking motherfucker.” Unacceptable words that went viral through videos on social networks when Lamine Yamal and Balde were celebrating the 0-3, the work of the Barcelona striker. When the winger himself and Raphinha were going to take a short corner, some insults were also reproduced.
“We are not going to allow these attacks to be normalized in sport”
Given the public exposure of the images and sounds, LaLiga has taken action on the matter and revealed yesterday that it has reported the matter to the National Police. The employers’ association has recorded insults and offensive gestures against Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati and Raphinha. They were recorded. LaLiga will request a lip expert report to try to identify racist fans. “LaLiga strongly condemns these events and remains firm in its commitment to eradicate any type of racist behavior and hatred inside and outside the stadiums. There is no place for this scourge in sport,” stated the organization chaired by Javier Tebas.

Parallel to the complaint to the Police, the Higher Sports Council has also taken action on the matter. Thus, the CSD specified that the Anti-Violence Commission will meet today to study this episode. “The classic is one of the greatest spectacles in the world, a true expression of the importance that football has in our country. In it, as in any other sporting event, there can never be room for expressions of violence, racism, xenophobia, hatred or intolerance,” argued the CSD.
“What has happened is regrettable, there is no space for these criminals, my support for Lamine”
The controversy even reached the Government, with the intervention of two ministers of Pedro Sánchez’s Executive. “Neither racism, nor insults, nor violence have a place in the sport of our country,” Pilar Alegría, Minister of Education and Sports and Government spokesperson, wrote on her social networks. “The racist insults directed at Lamine Yamal are all that the Government is going to fight against. We are not going to allow aggressions that we do not tolerate in other spaces to be normalized in sport. “Full support for the players and for LaLiga’s complaint,” tweeted Elma Saiz, Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.
