Another bad day for the Commissioners
During the Sprint at Mugello there were two contacts. Miguel Oliveira knocked down Fabio Quartararo by misjudging an attack inside the Palagio, while Enea Bastianini ended up on the ground after contact with Jorge Martin following the latter’s crossing of the trajectory after an attack inside by by Bastianini.
In both cases the Commissioners decided not to take measures and if, regarding the contact between Bastianini and Martin, the decision seems correct, the failure to penalize Oliveira for a obvious error of evaluation.
Fabio Quartararo went to Race Direction to get explanations, but as a matter of principle, certainly not to take revenge against Oliveira who was hit by Quartararo in Jerez a year ago (the relationship between the two is excellent: “First of all I want to say that I absolutely didn’t go and ask Oliveira for a penalty, he made a mistake like I made a mistake in the past – the words of Quartararo – I wanted, however, to tell the Commissioners that they are not doing a good job. It feels like talking to a wall and to people who have never raced a motorbike. I left Race Control more confused than before. It is not possible that there is such a different yardstick based on the incidents, but even in Jerez they classified the contact between Zarco and Espargarò as a racing accident, but I was behind them and that is not such a racing accident just as today’s incident between me and Oliveira is not a racing incident. Now it makes no difference to me whether I receive a penalty or not, but if I were fighting for the World Championship it would be different. In general the Commissioners are not doing a good job and I wanted to tell them my opinion.”
