The new year begins
The hunt for Yamaha to redemption after a very difficult 2023 began today, with the presentation of the new M1 which will be entrusted to the care of the new arrival, Alex Rinsand the 'usual' Fabio Quartararo. A year and a half ago, in mid-2022, the Frenchman seemed to be on his way to his second consecutive title. From that moment on, however, an endless collapse began for the 24-year-old from Nice and for the Iwata company.
Quartararo has never won a race again – the last success dates back to the 2022 German GP – and he collected just five podiums in 30 Grands Prix, seeing the second world championship vanish in favor of Pecco Bagnaia and then – in 2023 – never managing to be in contention for the general classification of the championship. With the expiring contract – like almost the entire MotoGP grid – 2024 will be a crucial season in the career of the transalpine champion.
Fixed goal in mind
“I don't know if this will be the year of truth – Quartararo declared to the microphones of Sky Sports on the sidelines of the presentation – but we have already done two days of testing and we hope to take a step forward in the next few days. I'm happy with how Yamaha is working, we have the potential but we need to find the way to put it on track. Last year was very difficult. Now we hope to get back to the top and do a good job“.
“Good work” which for Quartararo can only mean one thing: return to competing steadily for podiums and victories. “I want to win again – El Diablo clarified – I only have this in my head. I don't know if it will be a short or long process, but I want to get it together with my team this year. This winter was productive, I trained better than ever. I feel very good and I am very motivated. We must advance step by step: first we have to consolidate the top-5, then aim for the podium and finally the victory“.
