Xiaomi will be the first Qualcomm partner to announce the next flagship smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 on board, then it will be OnePlus' turn.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch is expected to be official in October, but previous rumors have indicated that the chipset design would be finalized as early as April.
This gave Qualcomm's various partners time to review and test the SoC. Among the devices that are adapting to the new silicon is OnePlus 13but according to the latest rumors it won't be the Flagship Killer that will boast the SoC first.
During the annual Snapdragon summit, when many of Qualcomm's partners will reveal which of their devices will be equipped with the next flagship chipset, Xiaomi could be the first to present its premium offering for the year.
According to an informant, the Chinese manufacturer will maintain its historical exclusivity with the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphone: Xiaomi 15 will be the first device to announce the adoption of the Qualcomm chipset in the fourth quarter of 2024, followed by OnePlus 13.
Between Xiaomi and OnePlus
Yogesh Brar indicated that the companies involved in the launch of the flagship devices will maintain their “positions”.
After Xiaomi, OnePlus and iQOO are expected to present their own versions of high-end devices in 2025.
There is a possibility that Xiaomi has collaborated with Qualcomm to optimize the processor and offer the best balance between performance and efficiency.
Additionally, tipster Digital Chat Station suggested on Weibo that the OnePlus 13 is currently being tested with the same SoC.
Some preliminary information about the device has also been released, suggesting one 6.8 inch curved screen with 2K resolution and LTPO OLED technology.
With dimensions similar to Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra, the OnePlus 13 could offer the flexibility to adapt the refresh rate up to 10Hz to save power in static mode.
While no details on the maximum refresh rate have been revealed, it is likely OnePlus maintains a limit of 120Hz to ensure a smooth user experience.
The device may also include a periscope zoom lens, as mentioned in the preliminary information about the camera.
New price lists
Despite Samsung is the main seller of units equipped with Snapdragon chipsets, it is a little surprising that it never inaugurated the Qualcomm summit.
The event, scheduled for October, will be an opportunity to check how Qualcomm has raised the level compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the competition. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi establishes i prices of its upcoming flagship line, considering a Qualcomm executive said the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be the company's most expensive smartphone chipset.
Furthermore, it is expected that some of the impressive hardware of the OnePlus 12 will be incorporated into the successor.
Currently, the basic version, with 12 GB of RAM, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, is available on Amazon for around 800 euros, confirming it as one of the best value for money on the market.
