Terrorism the Counter Extremism Project (CEP), a research institute specializing in research, calls for a boycott of the Qatar Economic Forum. The three-day forum will be held this week and its first day was on Tuesday.
CEP requires in the announcement published on its website attempts to withdraw their participation in the forum because of Qatar’s links to Hamas. CEP writes that by participating in the forum, the companies are directly participating in “Qatar’s long-term efforts to whitewash its support for Hamas.”
The representative office of the political wing of Hamas is located in Qatar. In the negotiations between Israel and Hamas, Qatar has been one of the main mediators.
“7. following the horrific atrocities of October, the world is now acutely aware of Qatar’s long-standing and continuing position as the primary patron of Hamas, the terrorist group responsible for the massacre,” says CEP CEO Mark Wallace says according to the release.
“Qatar seeks to support Hamas to maintain its grip on Gaza. In doing so, it ensures Hamas’ ability to plan and carry out future barbaric acts against Israel, as they have openly and repeatedly threatened. At the same time, the suffering of the ordinary Palestinians living there is prolonged,” says Wallace.
According to Wallace, anyone who attends Qatar-hosted conferences “lends their credibility” to the Qatari administration, and this is “clearly wrong.”
Finland participates in the Qatar Economic Forum. The Minister of Foreign Trade and Development, Basic Finns, is on the scene Ville Tavio.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tavio will meet representatives of the Qatari government and business community in Doha. During the meetings, commercial cooperation opportunities between Finland and Qatar will be discussed.
“This is an excellent opportunity to get to know an important market for our companies and to highlight Finnish expertise in several sectors,” says Tavio, according to the ministry’s press release.
HS could not reach Tavio to comment on the matter on Friday.
