Moscow’s threat to the Union: stop gas, oil and coal if the price cap passes. Agreement with Mongolia for a gas pipeline to China. In Samarkand the meeting with Xi
FLY. “We won’t deliver anything if it’s contrary to our interests. We will not supply gas, oil, coal, fuel oil: we will not supply anything ».
Between a speech full of rhetoric and another seasoned with the usual propaganda of the Kremlin on the war in Ukraine, Putin spoke at the Vladivostok economic forum to threaten the complete closure of the gas taps for all those countries that will impose a ceiling on the prices of the methane and Russian oil. A message first of all you sent to Europe, where the president of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced at the same time that she wanted to go ahead with the price cap.
With the EU trying to reduce its energy dependence on Moscow, the Kremlin is increasingly looking to Beijing also to sell its gas. Putin also confirmed this yesterday: “We are discussing the construction of a large infrastructure project”, a methane pipeline for “the supply of Russian gas to China through Mongolia,” he said in a meeting with the premier of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene promptly broadcast in TV. For years, the Russian giant Gazprom has been thinking about building such a pipeline: the “Siberian Force 2”, which should be capable of pumping up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas a year, slightly less than the already existing “Force of Siberia ”, which since 2019 has brought up to 61 billion cubic meters of Russian methane to China every year.
Putin announced that in mid-September he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Samarkand and declared that the trade between Russia and China “has already reached 140 billion dollars” and could “soon” reach “200 billion”. Then he once again lashed out against Western sanctions imposed on Moscow for the atrocious invasion of Ukraine and spoke of “Western sanctions fever” declaring that it is “impossible” to isolate Russia.
The level of rhetoric increased further when Putin immersed himself in his own propaganda to the point that, in the military aggression against Ukraine, Moscow “lost nothing”: “I can say that the main advantage was the strengthening of the our sovereignty “.
Finally, the Russian president declared that “almost all” of the Ukrainian wheat exported by sea arrives in Europe on the basis of the agreements to alleviate the dramatic food crisis aggravated by the invasion of Ukraine and accused the West of deceiving the countries in the process of development. According to the AFP, the data from the Istanbul monitoring center show, however, that just over a third of shipments arrive in Europe, 20% in Turkey and 30% in low and medium-low income countries. Furthermore, with the UN World Food Program, other vessels are expected to arrive in areas of Africa and the Middle East affected by famine.
