MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Ukraine’s armed forces on Friday to take power in the country, a day after launching an invasion of the neighboring country.
“Once again I appeal to the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: do not allow neo-Nazis and (Ukrainian radical nationalists) to use your children, wives and the elderly as human shields,” Putin said in a televised speech during a meeting with his security council.
“Take power into your own hands, it will be easier for us to come to an agreement.”
Putin added that the Russian military in Ukraine is acting “bravely, professionally and heroically”.
