Putin announced the imminent start of construction of the “Force of Siberia-2” and its Mongolian section
In the near future, Russia will begin construction of the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline to China and its Mongolian section Soyuz-Vostok. This was stated by President Vladimir Putin at the Russian Energy Week forum. RIA News.
The President did not name the exact date of the start of work. According to him, Russia seeks to expand the geography of gas supplies, for which it intends to build new infrastructure facilities and work in new directions.
Among other projects, Putin mentioned the linking of the Asian and European segments of the national gas transportation system, as well as continued support for LNG terminal projects.
The need for new gas supply routes increased significantly in 2022 after the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine and the unprecedented sanctions imposed by the European Union in response to this move.
As of September, Gazprom’s exports to non-CIS countries have fallen by 40 percent. Despite the growth in deliveries to China via the Power of Siberia, in absolute terms they cannot compensate for the failure in European sales.
As of October, Gazprom lost two routes at once – Yamal-Europe and Nord Stream. Deliveries via the Nord Stream 2 line that survived the explosion are not being carried out due to the fact that it is not certified.
A month ago, Prime Minister of Mongolia Luvsannamsrain Oyuun-Erdene, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), said that, at best, Power of Siberia-2 would be completed in 2029. At that time, it was assumed that the construction itself would begin in 2024.
