The Ukrainian military made an attempt to establish a river crossing near the village of Studenok in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the allied forces destroyed about 70 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as well as enemy military equipment. This was announced on September 17 by the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin.
“As for the settlement of Studenok, the enemy tried to establish a crossing through the water, but the allied forces destroyed 18 pieces of enemy equipment and about 70 personnel,” he said in a video message in his Telegram channel.
Pushilin also refuted the statements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine regarding the control they had established over the settlements of Dibrov and Shchurovo. He noted that the allied forces continue to fight there.
The day before, Pushilin said that serious clashes had taken place in the eastern part of Yarovaya in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to attack in the direction of Aleksandrovka and Krynok six times during the day, the head of the DPR noted and added that there are NATO instructors in the Ukrainian combat formations.
In addition, on this day, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, said that Ukrainian troops had lost more than 400 soldiers killed and wounded as a result of strikes by the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of the DPR, as well as in the Nikolaev and Kharkiv regions.
On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. It began against the backdrop of the situation in the region that worsened in mid-February. Then the authorities of the DPR and LPR reported on the increased shelling by the Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of the civilian population in the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the relevant decrees.
