A police chase that lasted more than 25 kilometers ended with four dead after the two vehicles overturned in Jardim Botânico, a neighborhood in the south of Rio, in the early hours of this Wednesday, 22nd. Among the dead were two military police officers.
The chase began after a vehicle broke through a traffic stop at Km 19.5 of the Red Line, in the north of the city. Four military police officers got into two vehicles and began a chase, which crossed the city and ended with the accident in the south zone.
According to the Military Police, the suspects fled along the Red Line and, after crossing the Rebouças Tunnel, overturned on the curved needle, which is descending. One of the vehicles also overturned at the scene. The two occupants of the fleeing car and the two police officers who were in the vehicle died.
The PMs were assigned to the Expressway Police Battalion (BPVE). The victims were two soldiers: Bruno Paulo da Silva, who leaves a wife, a 15-year-old son and a two-year-old son; and Bruno William Batista de Souza Ribeiro, who was also married and had a 4-year-old son.
Early in the morning, forensics continued at the scene. The tunnel was blocked, but traffic was released at around 7am. The suspects had not yet been identified until the publication of this article.
