Carles Puigdemont has returned to the presidency of Junts after two years in which he had preferred not to have an organic position. The former president has taken advantage of the renewal of the executive that his party is carrying out in its third congress to present himself leading a direction that Jordi Turull will command, as general secretary, a position in which he has already held since 2022. 90.18% of the militancy has endorsed the candidacy, which was the only list that had been presented.
In addition to Puigdemont and Turull, the new leadership will be made up of four vice-presidencies, the spokesperson in Congress, Míriam Nogueras, the leader of the Demòcrates formation, which has just joined Junts, Antoni Castellà, the spokesperson for the formation, Josep Rius and the spokesperson of the parliamentary group in the Parliament, Mònica Sales. In addition, the executive will consist of 25 members. Among these will be Judith Toronjo as organizational secretary and Teresa Pallarès in finance. Pilar Calvo will also be the president of the National Council.
In the party they do not hide that the new executive is a team designed to suit Carles Puigdemont. The former president has now decided to make his return to the Junts leadership official, although in practice Puigdemont took the reins in the summer of 2023 to negotiate the support of his deputies for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez.
