Single and season tickets for transport in the Helsinki region purchased through the Whim mobility application will become more expensive starting in mid-September.
One called Whim Single and season tickets for the Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) purchased through the mobility application will become more expensive.
The Maas Global company, the developer of the application, tells its customers in a press release that it will raise the prices of the HSL tickets it sells by about five percent. Prices will rise from mid-September.
For example, one-time tickets for AB and BC zones will cost EUR 2.95 (now EUR 2.80) and 30-day season tickets EUR 68.60 (EUR 65.30).
raises in the background is what HSL’s board of directors did in 2019 decisionaccording to which the municipal corporation does not pay ticket sales fees to its dealers.
According to HSL, this brings annual savings of 5–6 million euros. Retailers, on the other hand, can add their own commission to the ticket prices.
Until now, Whim has offered HSL tickets at the same price as HSL and has paid the ticket brokerage, technical implementation and maintenance costs itself.
Now Maas Global considers that it can no longer allow special treatment for one of its partners by financing the forwarding of tickets to customers.
According to the release, in other cities and countries where the company’s Whim application works, public transport operators guarantee reasonable compensation for expenses.
The company says that it wants to promote sustainable mobility and offer an attractive alternative to private cars in the capital region.
With the Whim application, in addition to public transport, you can use electric scooters, city bikes, taxis and rental cars.
Deep down HSL, struggling with financial difficulties, predicts that passenger numbers will recover from the coronavirus pandemic more slowly than previously estimated.
Ticket prices are expected to increase again next year.
Correction 12.9. 2:51 p.m.: Contrary to what was previously reported in the news, HSL does not pay ticket sales fees to any of its retailers.
