All that’s missing now is the official announcement, but it’s clear that a “technical” presentation hosted by Mark Cerny means only one thing: the PS5 Pro is about to be announced.
It’s hard to find new things to say about PS5 Proafter months and months of speculation and now just hours away from what This should be his official presentation: a “technical” keynote hosted by Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the recent Sony consoles, can in fact only be dedicated to a new PS5 model, and this is precisely what all the rumors and leaks that have emerged in recent days are all about. With all the chatter that has been going on in this period, paradoxically the only new element we can discuss while waiting for the livestream is the length of the event, which seems rather surprising: 9 minutes is rather short, but it could be in line with the presentation of a machine that does not promise to revolutionize anything but rather to improve some very specific aspects of the current gaming experience on PS5.
In September 2016, almost 8 years ago to the day, Mark Cerny introduced the world to the PS4 Pro and he did it with another live keynote on a stage, twice as long as the one tomorrow. The evolution of the PS4 was illustrated in 18 minutes and something, but at the time there were perhaps more new elements to introduce to the public, and more easily communicated, so to speak: the presentation focused on the increase in resolution to 4K (although this figure has not been fully achieved even in this next generation), the application of HDR and support for PlayStation VR, all elements relatively new considering that 4K TVs with HDR were establishing themselves at the time and the virtual reality headset was an absolute novelty for the Sony console, but the PS5 Pro arrives in a decidedly different situation in terms of the technological landscape.
A more compact presentation
There should be no need for major digressions to introduce new technologies and standards, since there should be no particular evolutionary steps in these areas.
Beyond possible native support for Dolby Vision or similar issues, the presentation could focus mainly onIncreased performance and graphics qualitysince even in terms of data and archive management there shouldn’t be any particular changes compared to the setup already seen on the standard PS5. Simply talking about graphical improvements might not require much in-depth analysis, at least not in a first presentation video, considering that more specific explanations will probably come later, perhaps through tests and technical analyses that are less interesting to the mass public.
We are in the era of diminishing returns, if we can translate the law of “diminishing returns” in this way, and the improvements applied by PS5 Pro could be more fully grasped only by the most enthusiastic gaming audience. For the moment, therefore, it is likely that tomorrow’s presentation will be limited to some fundamental technical indications on the features of PS5 Pro, the design of the new console and obviously release date and price. This last one could be the most controversial element, in the end, considering that this generation has not really accustomed us to a progressive lowering of prices and therefore also the entry cost could underline the fact that the new model is probably aimed at a niche of enthusiasts. In any case, we can’t wait to see what Mark Cerny will show us tomorrow, with an appointment set for September 10th at 17:00.
