Sony has finally announced PS5 Prothe much talked about new version of the PlayStation gaming platform. It is a product obviously designed for the most passionate, who want the best of the best possible on the PlayStation market, but we must admit that there is a detail that hurts the heart a little: the price.
Sony has announced that PS5 Pro – which we recall will be available from November 7, 2024 – will cost 800€ (€799.99 to be precise, but don’t make us write all these 9, please). The real problem is that this is not really the price of the console.
How Much Does PS5 Pro “Really” Cost
What do we mean? It’s easy to say. The PS5 Pro actually costs €800, but there’s a problem: it’s only Digital and without a vertical stand. These two products cost €120 and €30 respectively, for a nice 150€ extra that brings the console to 950€.
Obviously not everyone needs these two elements. New players or those who started with PS5 Digital (whether normal or slim) do not have any PS4 and PS5 discs and therefore could also do without the optical reader, while those who have a PS5 Slim do not need the vertical support base.
But we shouldn’t kid ourselves. A console like PS5 Pro is designed for super enthusiaststhat is, those who bought PS5 at launch (so they don’t have a slim vertical stand). Furthermore, a good portion of these players had PS4 discs and had the intention – even if only to a limited extent – of also purchasing PS5 discs. The bulk of the audience, therefore, is made up of players who need the reader and the stand.
The extra €150 they are almost an obligationso, and the final price is €950, a really high figure. Considering that a PS5 Slim with optical drive normally costs €550 but can be found without too much difficulty at discounted prices, even close to €450, Sony is basically asking for double. The only lifeline in all of this is that it will be possible to resell your basic PS5 and recover part of the expense, but that doesn’t change the fact that the PlayStation 5 Pro costs a lot.
Also, we may find out that the third party developers (which represent the bulk of the market) will be able to truly exploit this PS5 Pro version and its unique features, but we have seen that even with PS4 Pro the differences were not that huge and often third-party teams do not have the resources to optimize an additional version of the game, not in a serious way, especially if it were to sell poorly.
We’ll see how it goes, after all. even PS Portal was considered a failure before it came out and eventually became (relatively, obviously) a success.
Tell us, Will PS5 Pro be the next PS Portal and surprise everyone? Finally, we leave you with our news with all the details on the console.
