PS5 and PSVR 2 with systems similar to FSR AMD and DLSS Nvidia.
Sony he would be thinking of equipping his present and future systems, then PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation VR 2, a real-time image upscaling technology, a technology similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR. This at least from what emerged from a patent appeared on Resetera, called “method implemented by the computer to complete an image”.
Machine learning would enter here with the new method that involves the generation of a “mask” of the image, revealing some sections and hiding others, before altering it and applying filling processes based on the presence or absence of “holes”. The machine will learn a relatively simple mechanism to classify whether certain image deficiencies are legitimate or not, using less and less computing power.
All this seems to have been studied also ─ or above all ─ for virtual reality: “virtual reality headsets require much more computing power to display a satisfactory image for a user than a conventional computer monitor [al fine di migliorare] user comfort and immersion“.
We also have the LinkedIn profile of Andy Bigos, Sony’s senior chief engineer and one of the inventors of the patent who recently claimed to have “worked on applying machine learning and neural rendering to real-time graphics on PlayStation 5.“That doesn’t specifically mention virtual reality, but it appears to connect this technology directly to the console.
