Protests | Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Israel for the fifth week

The protesters are against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing governing coalition and its intended legal changes.

in Israel thousands of people have gathered again in the streets to oppose the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu legal changes, says The Guardian newspaper

Demonstrations were organized in 20 different cities and, based on local media reports, tens of thousands of people took part in Tel Aviv alone.

Demonstrations were organized for the fifth week in a row. Netanyahu returned to the role of prime minister after the elections held in November. His right-wing government coalition also includes, among other things, extreme religious and extreme right-wing parties.

Protesters opposed legal change would give Parliament the power to overturn Supreme Court decisions with a simple majority. There are 120 seats in the parliament, which means that 61 votes would be required for repeal.

In addition, the changes pushed by Netanyahu would affect how judges are appointed. The changes would give politicians even more power when it comes to appointments.

The Israeli government has also announced its desire to expand its illegal settlements in the West Bank and narrow the status of sexual and gender minorities in the country.
