Juarez City.- Anti-AMLO groups on this border will join the national call to protest against the alleged overrepresentation of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies next Sunday, August 11, just two days after President López Obrador’s visit to the city.
“We are looking into all of that. Yes, we are going to do it, but we still don’t have the location of the tables. We are having meetings with INE counselors, this time from Juárez, we have a meeting in Mexico City to discuss the issue,” said Sara Galaviz, representative of the Poder Ciudadano organization on this border.
These civil groups are planning demonstrations in 45 cities across the country on August 11.
Meeting points
In the state, protests have been confirmed in the cities of Chihuahua and Juárez, at the facilities of the INE representation at 802 División del Norte Street in the San Felipe neighborhood and at the representation of the electoral body in the El Paseo shopping center, respectively; both at 11:00 in the morning.
In the LXVI Legislature, Morena will have 248 deputies by relative majority and proportional representation. Article 54 of the Constitution establishes that: no political party may have more than 300 deputies by both principles.
The same article details that the distribution of legislators is to avoid overrepresentation, since it states: “In no case will a political party have a number of deputies from both principles that represent a percentage of the total of the Chamber that exceeds by eight points its percentage of national votes cast.”
On Tuesday, the citizen groups that make up the Pink Tide demanded that the National Electoral Institute (INE) not allow Morena, PVEM and PT to obtain more deputies than they are entitled to according to the votes received on June 2.
Members of civil organizations that make up Unid@s met with seven of the 11 INE councilors, who promised to review and listen to all voices regarding overrepresentation, so they still do not have a definitive position on how they will distribute the plurinominal seats on August 23.
Also from that organization, Fernando Belaunzarán, said that they made it clear that the INE cannot allow the 46 percent of the votes won by the opposition, including the PAN, the PRI, the PRD and Movimiento Ciudadano, to be reduced to 25 percent.
