Tourist spot was illuminated with requests for prayer and donations to victims of heavy rains in the State
Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro, received a projection on Wednesday night (May 9, 2024) in honor of Rio Grande do Sul, which is facing one of the worst climate tragedies in the state’s history. The images included the Gaucho flag, in addition to the phrases “united in prayer for Rio Grande do Sul” It is “Every donation makes a difference”.

On Instagram, the Cristo Redentor Sanctuary, responsible for the tourist spot, shared the “Christ the Redeemer SOS Rio Grande do Sul” initiative. At the project websiteinterested parties can send different amounts to help victims of the rains or find information on how to donate food, clothing and hygiene items.
On the same Wednesday night (May 9), the National Congress also received a projection of the flag of Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense bulletin on Wednesday night (May 8), at least 100 people died as a result of the rains in the state. Another 130 are missing and 374 are injured. The storms have already left 163,786 people homeless and 67,428 relocated to shelters.
