I.n Berlin is currently negotiating a coalition, in the German media landscape it is a done deal. It is a coalition that has set itself the goal of turning the world around. “Green Motion” is the motto. It means that the German film, television and video-on-demand providers want to produce sustainably and ecologically clean. They have signed a declaration of self-commitment on climate protection, according to which they want to comply with minimum standards from January 1, 2022 in order to significantly reduce the carbon dioxide emissions caused by the industry. There is a comprehensive catalog of behavior that regulates in detail how filming and production should take place. Those who meet the criteria are allowed to adorn themselves with the “Green Motion” label after a corresponding examination.
Almost everyone is part of the coalition of eco-willing: Bavaria Film, Constantin Film, Studio Hamburg, UFA, We Ae Era and Ziegler Film on the producers’ side. The list of channels and platforms is also long: ProSiebenSat.1, RTL Deutschland, Sky, Netflix, ARD’s Degeto Film, Bayerischer Rundfunk, MDR, NDR, RBB, SWR, WDR and ZDF. Also involved are the film subsidies: Hessen Film und Medien, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, MV Filmförderung Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and nordmedia Film- und Mediengesellschaft. The whole thing is supported by the professional associations, the Federal Drama Association, the Federal Association of Film Editing Editor, the Alliance of German Producers, the German Film Academy and the Association of Technical Companies for Film & Television.
