NNorth Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) tested positive for the corona virus during a trip to Israel. Another PCR test will be carried out to be on the safe side, according to delegation circles on Monday. The “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported on it.
Wüst only started a four-day trip to Israel on Sunday and laid a wreath at the Israeli Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem on Monday. For reasons of caution, the Prime Minister will initially not attend the other dates of his trip, according to participants.
It is still unclear whether and for how long Wüst will have to stay in quarantine in Israel before he can test himself freely for a flight home and whether and in what form he can take part in the Prime Ministers’ Conference (MPK) on Thursday if the infection is confirmed.
Wüst is currently the chairman of the MPK. This is to advise Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on the current corona situation.
As the German Press Agency learned, Wüst had done a PCR test before entering Israel and immediately after entering, which according to the information were both negative. The third test has now produced a positive result.
