Premier League, new storm over Tonali: bets also in England
New troubles for Sandro Tonali. The Football Association has in fact announced that the Newcastle midfielder is accused of misconduct in connection with alleged violations of federal wagering rules. The English Football Federation claims that the former AC Milan player would have placed several bets on football (50 to be precise between 12 August and 12 October 2023) even after his move to the Premier League, occurred at the beginning of July. Tonali, for bets placed in ItalyHe already had negotiated with the FIGC a sentence of 18 months, of which 10 of disqualification and 8 of alternative prescriptions. The blue now risks a further disqualification. Already in the days immediately following the sentence imposed on him by the Italian Football Federation, and subsequently ratified by FIFA, the FA had opened an investigation to ensure that Tonali's behavior had not continued in Newcastle.
The dates indicated in the press release announcing the accusations against Tonali are not random: 12 August coincides with the first day of the Premier League, while 12 October is the day on which Tonali, together with Zaniolo, was forced to leave the withdrawal of the national team following the rumors spread by Fabrizio Corona regarding their involvement in the betting business, after the Fagioli case had exploded.
NEWCASTLE'S NOTE: “FULL SUPPORT FOR SANDRO”: Soon after came the official communication from his current club: “Newcastle United has become aware of an allegation of misconduct received by Sandro Tonali in relation to alleged breaches of the FA betting rules. Sandro continues to fully support the investigations relevant and retains the full support of the club. Due to the ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time.”
