The echo and the emotion have never subsided. Not surprisingly, Pablito continues to have a front row seat in the history of football and in Italy and beyond
A blue is forever. A motto that also and above all applies to Paolo Rossi, who made Brazil cry in 1982 and all of Italy last year, when he left this world too early. The echo and the emotion have never subsided. Not surprisingly, Pablito continues to have a front row seat in the history of football and in Italy and beyond. Prato has decided to pay homage to the memory of the 1982 World Cup top scorer with a plaque that will be posted on his birthplace in Santa Lucia.
RECOGNITION – The decision has already been approved by the city council, on the recommendation of the councilor for mobility Flora Leoni. The bureaucracy provided for a passage from the Toponymy Commission, chaired by Leoni herself, so the step was obviously very short. The plaque will have the following wording: “Birthplace of Paolo Rossi, 1982 world champion footballer”. This is another recognition for the champion who died prematurely.
MEMORY – A few weeks ago, in fact, a statue was inaugurated in the neighborhood where Pablito was born and raised. The event was attended by the family of Paolo Rossi and also some companions of the extraordinary mundial ride in Spain. On that occasion the idea of naming the Olympic Stadium in Rome was also developed. While waiting for developments, this is the umpteenth stage in a path of gratitude for a player who has become not only a sporting symbol but also a historical memory of the country.
ADVANCE – Prato confirms itself, therefore, in full compliance also with the technical characteristics of the champion, a master in … playing ahead of other cities. After all, Paolo Rossi is a figure that goes beyond the city and the country. The plaque will, in all likelihood, anticipate new dedications: in itinere, in view of next December 9, the anniversary of his death, other squares, streets and stadiums waiting to be named in memory of a boy who represents the most loved and remembered victory by Italian sportsmen, even more than in 2006, although many football fans were not yet born when Italy returned to the top of the world after 44 years of waiting.
