Mexico.- The passage of covid-19 in children and adolescents you can leave significant consequences on your health.
Medical studies have reported that minors have presented the so-called multisystem inflammatory syndrome or even diabetes weeks or months after having the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Óscar Tamez, pediatric infectologist at the Tecnológico de Monterrey Health System, indicated that these conditions can be serious if they are not treated promptly.
Characteristics
Óscar Tamez explained that multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children occurs 21 to 28 days after infection, although it can appear months after infection. This syndrome is derived from SARS-CoV-2, but he clarified that it is not covid-19. They can inflame the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs in minors.
He explained that the condition can be serious, but most minors improve with medical attention. Among the symptoms associated with this syndrome is fever that is difficult to control, small spots on the skin all over the body, red eyes or swelling of the hands and feet, diarrhea or vomiting, among others.
In the case of diabetes, the pediatric infectologist indicated that apparently everything is fine after recovery, but it has been seen that in the next six months they have an increased risk of having diabetes, twice more than those who did not get it.
“Once it is diagnosed, it is no longer something revocable,” he added. The alarm data that must be observed in children to detect diabetes in time are unexplained weight loss, the urge to urinate more frequently and great thirst, among others.
