The President of the Republic has called them for early May
The Portugal government, chaired by Luís Montenegro, has lost the motion of confidence on Tuesday in Parliament, so the country will have early elections.
The Government of Montenegro, who came to power a year ago, had a relative majority in Parliament and have been the two greatest opposition parties, as they already announced that they would do, those who have voted against the issue of confidence of the Executive.
During the vote, the government party has tried to suspend the motion and give a period of 15 days for an investigation commission, which the PS asked to be at least 90 days. After several proposals and counterparts, they have not reached any agreement.
After the fall of the government, Portugal prepares for early elections next May, as convened by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The controversy that has caused the refusal of the opposition to confidence to the government is for commissions of 4,500 euros that one of the companies of the Prime Minister, Spinumviva, received by one of the largest economic groups in the country, the Solverde group. This commission was in exchange for an alleged advice on “data protection” while Montenegro was prime minister.
