Port movement of goods in Brazil hit a new record, informed the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) today (2). According to the agency, 1.2 billion tons of miscellaneous cargo were handled in 2021 – which represents a growth of 4.8% compared to 2020.
“The port sector is no longer a bottleneck, it has been responding to the demands of the Brazilian productive sector and achieving increasingly expressive results. In addition to the market, this response comes through the investments we make and the private initiative”, informed the Minister of Infrastructure Tarcísio de Freitas.
According to a note published by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the forecast is that the number will also grow in 2022. The numbers published by the ministry show that the expectation is 2.4% more than the result recorded for 2021.
“For the next four years, the agency expects to maintain the upward trend in port traffic. In 2026, the expectation is that the national port sector will handle 1.402 billion tons, against 1.360 billion tons in 2025”, says the document.
