Porsche has to decide what to do in the electric coupe segment, given that the renewed version of Taycan will soon be joined by the fully electric variant of Panamera. The question that all professionals ask themselves is: Can the two models coexist? The answer is given directly by the German car manufacturer, and it is yes: the company has in fact said it is confident that the Taycan will be able to enjoy a prominent position in the range for a long time, even once the Panamera becomes electric in the future.
Trust in Taycan
“We have great interest in keeping the Taycan as one line of long-lasting cars, like the 911, and like we do with all our car lines. When we decide to introduce a new model line, we don't plan on keeping it alive for just three or four years“, explained the head of the Taycan model line, Kevin Giek, to Autocar's microphones. Translated: there is a future for Taycan and Panamera together, according to Porsche there is no risk of “cannibalization” of sales.
Continuous updates
Clearly, to maintain a high level of competitiveness of the Taycan, as it is not a new model, Porsche's task will have to be to update continuously the car as new technologies and opportunities emerge. “We want to keep the Taycan as an innovator, to show what is possible and what our definition of a BEV sports car is. Because of this we will continue to continuously improve the car“Giek added.
Coexistence possible
On the other hand, we are talking about an extremely important model for Porsche, given that from the Taycan it was able to learn various skills to exploit on other electric models of the present and future. “The first Taycan was our first step towards BEV, we learned many things from there from which all other models can now also benefit”, Giek reported. Who concluded by talking about the coexistence of Taycan and Panamera: “We think the Panamera segment is more spacious and more luxurious for its customers. It's something totally different from what we see in the Taycan, which is more focused on the sportiness and behavior of a real sports car. They are obviously different. Both have the right position in the market. Both make sense and we are confident we have customers for both cars.”
