A nudist beach in Australia will probably no longer see completely bare skin in the future. Because the visitors did not behave well, there is a risk that they will be required to dress.
Byron Bay – Is it the end of a popular nude beach visited by tourists from around the world? In Australia, on Tyagarah Beach, a remote, 800-meter-long stretch of beach north of Byron Bay, shellfish have been happily sizzling in the sun. It is part of the Tyagarah Nature Reserve and is maintained by the New South Wales state government. But in recent weeks the beach has been the subject of heated debate.
New deadline for Tyagarah Beach – after that you will probably have to wear clothes
Last year, the state government wrote to the local council complaining that public nudity was “inconsistent with the values by which the reserve is managed,” the CNN affiliate reports 9News. Byron Bay Shire Council recently unveiled a plan for managing the reserve, the move is part of it.
But there is still the opportunity for nudist culture enthusiasts to pursue their passion – at least for a few more months. After a debate in the council there was a loud voice The New Daily June 30th was named as the new deadline. But there appears to be little hope of a further delay, as councilors noted during a meeting that the NWPS's conservation area policy “expressly prohibits” having a clothing-optional area.
Nudist beach visitors attract attention due to their unsightly behavior
The reason for this is not only the skin that can be freely admired, but also the behavior of the people there. A report from the Tyagarah Nature Reserve Protection Plan said: “There were reports of abusive, obscene or anti-social behavior by some users of the beach, including visitors who were inappropriately dressed in the adjacent day use area of the reserve.”
Local police have been tasked with handling public complaints regarding the beach. This is not the first time Tyagarah's clothing freedom status has been at risk of a crackdown. In 2018, a similar measure was rejected by the Shire Council and cameras were installed as a compromise. There are also cases of misconduct on nudist beaches in Germany.
Naturist lovers start a petition for a nudist beach in Australia
Bradley Benham, president of the Bryon Naturalist Group, pointed to a petition from the group that garnered over 1,000 votes. “Naked recreation is a legitimate way of life,” Benham wrote. “Legal outdoor spaces for the naturist community are rare in NSW (and Australia) and this beach is highly valued by both committed and casual naturists.”
Benham further opposite 9News: “I have been bathing naked on the beaches of Byron Shire since I was a child in the 70s and 80s. We have a much larger population now. We have many more beach users and need a legally designated area where we can swim naked.” Meanwhile, on a beach in Israel, tourists are also being criticized for their behavior. (cgsc)
