The San Antonio team confirms the “health problem” of its coach, absent in the last six games
The San Antonio Spurs have revealed that their head coach, Gregg Popovich, suffered a minor stroke on November 2, which is why he has been absent from the team since then. At the same time, they trust in a complete recovery that will allow them to return to their activity.
Popovich, 75, had missed his team’s last six games with what was initially described as a “health issue.” In the statement, the Spurs confirm that the coach suffered the stroke at the Frost Bank Center, just after his team’s victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Mitch Johnson, Popovich’s assistant, has been confirmed as head coach during the veteran coach’s convalescence, as yet undated.
Popovich is the oldest manager in NBA history, leader in wins in the regular phase with 1,390, plus another 170 in the playoffs. With the Spurs he has won five rings in his 29 seasons at the helm.
