Polyansky: Raisi’s death could further inflame the situation in the Middle East
The death in a plane crash of the head of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, and the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, may further inflame the already difficult situation in the Middle East. At the same time, the parties are showing restraint in relation to what happened, Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, pointed out this, writes RIA News.
“The situation in the Middle East is now really so tense that anything can affect it. It depends on how (the situation) will be used and what the consequences will be,” he said.
At the same time, Polyansky urged not to rush to conclusions and wait until the end of the investigation. The diplomat added that he was not ready to judge the possibility of other states being involved in the tragedy. Drawing conclusions about what happened is the prerogative of the Iranian authorities.
The day before, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces announced the preliminary results of the investigation into the crash with the Raisi helicopter. According to the department’s public relations center, the aircraft body has no traces of bullet damage.
It was also reported that Iran denied information about the discovery by a Turkish drone of the crash site of Raisi’s helicopter.
Three million people took part in the farewell ceremony for the head of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi. The politician was buried in the Imam Reza Mausoleum.
