The 2023 Monaco Motor Show was the stage for the debut of Polestar Synergy, a futuristic and sustainable concept resulting from the Design Contest organized by the Swedish premium brand in collaboration with Hot Wheels. The 1:1 scale model was shown for the first time at IAA 2023 and will be a source of inspiration for the next edition of the Polestar Design Contest, as well as representing the start of a new partnership with the Mattel brand.
The path to the birth of Polestar Synergy
Polestar Synergy is the result of three joint projects and over 600 nominations. The request for the participants was to give life to a Polestar car focused on performance to be achieved in a sustainable way. After selecting ten projects, the jury chose two winners for the exteriors and one for the interiors – a first for the competition. The resulting Polestar Synergy is the product of more than six months of collaboration between the winners and the Polestar design team to transform three distinct dreams into a cohesive reality.
Brand satisfaction
“Congratulations to the winners; their vision and teamwork with our designers resulted in a truly beautiful car – commented Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar – Partnering with Mattel for next year’s Polestar Design Contest along with upcoming scale models of our cars will bring the Polestar brand and this innovative contest to an even wider audience. All of this shows that electric vehicles – in reality or as toys – can be just as, if not more, thrilling than their ICE equivalents.”
The design
The final design of the fictional supercar is inspired by nature and emotional stability over time, with a one-seat floating interior design with control at the center. It will be exhibited at Polestar Space in Munich during IAA 2023, before visiting other Polestar locations in the future. Both winning exterior designers, Devashish Deshmukh and Swapnil Desai, are based in Paris, France. Deshmukh’s design focused on excavated volumes, inspired by a hammerhead shark, while Desai’s was all about emotional durability with technical upgradeability and materials that age gracefully over time. Interior designer Yingxiang Li of China has created a cabin with a performance-oriented seating position that offers a new experience centered around “comfort and motion control”.
Dimensions and future
Taken as a whole the car is a true embodiment of Polestar’s core performance values. However, with a height of just 1.07 meters and a length of 4.56 meters, the car features proportions and details never before seen by the brand to create a striking supercar silhouette, proving that electric supercars can be as exciting as internal combustion supercars. A new world catwalk is now in sight for this model. Following its debut at the IAA in Munich, the Polestar Synergy will head to the United States and begin its lead model tour at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California from October 7, 2023, before making further appearances in the Polestar locations across the country.
